Selouda’s Koutelo
(15 votes)

The wider area of the village Agios Ioannis at Sfakia province hosts one of the most beautiful pine forests of Crete. The most famous trail in the area is the ancient stone paved path that connects Agios Ioannis to Agia Roumeli, after reaching the beach with the church of Saint Paul at position Selouda.

The highest point on the route, called Selouda’s Koutelo, is one of the finest viewpoints in Crete at the edge of the cliff. From this point we overlook the South Cretan Sea and the gorge of Samaria. This koutelo (koutelo means forehead in Cretan dialect and is taken after the cliff edge), along with the koutelo of Kato Simi wood, are the most famous natural balconies of Crete.
