The Gorge of Arkadi starts just north of the Arkadi monastery and after a scenic route of 2 hours. Some parts along the bed of the gorge are inaccessible, due to waterfalls and very dense vegetation, thus walking is possible along the east banks. Hiking ends near the village Pikris, where it merges with Gypofarago gorge, and visitors can admire important Venetian architectural monuments. In the gorge of the exceptional natural beauty, the visitor has the opportunity to admire representative species of Cretan flora and fossils.
A narrow part of the gorge can also be admired by driving to Arkadi monastery, as the road runs in it. Thus you can get an impression of how it looks like just by paying a visit to the monastery.
