The cave of Petsis or Metaxaris is located at position Karavotopos, near Koutalis beach, in the area of the village Kokkino Horio in province Apokoronas. The cave has a very rich decor and is about 100 meters long, being one of the most important in the area (which has a large number of caves). Its interior has a lot of clay, so it's very slippery.
High above the village of Mirthios at Province Agios Vasilies rises the peak Kyrimianos at an altitude of 805 meters. It is an extremely rough and steep place, without trees except for some ancient cypress trees that have been left there to remind us that the mountain range that covers the valley of Agios Vasilios (Kouroupa) is the geological continuity of the White Mountains.
At the north side of Mount Bobias, between Fodele and Agia Pelagia, there is a small and unknown cave. Actually it is a long rock shelter formed by the impressive psammite rocks that dominate this area. The cave is located at the north side of the mountain, at the top of a vertical cliff of height 100 meters, in the middle of the 'Trail of the Pilgrims' towards the the church of Agios Sozon at Cape Stavros.
The unknown gorge of Kouroukoulos starts from the deserted village Agalianos at the province of Merambelo, Lasithi prefecture. West of Kouroukoulos, there is the Gorge Patsopoulos.
The cretan cyclamen belongs to the family of Primoulides. In many places of Greece, cyclamens are also called "hiropsomο" (i.e. bread for pig), because their roots are eaten by pigs. They grow in the middle of autumn between rock fissures or in the rubble.
The islands of Grandes is a complex of three small lowland rocks in the province of Sitia, about half a mile opposite the beautiful beach of Hiona. In fact, the largest area (300 acres) is occupied by the middle island, known as Prasonisi, which is oblong and has the highest altitude at 31 meters. In the middle of the island there is a beautiful beach with two tamarisk trees, surrounded by rocks.
Within walking distance from the sea, on the north coast of Koufonissi islet, we meet the scenic chapel of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of the sailors. Here several sandy beaches are formed.
