Around 250m from the beach Pera Galini there are the ruins of a former monastery, dedicated to Saint Anthony (Agios Antonios), from which only the chapel survives. This monastery was probably abandoned and deserted due to the constant pirate raids in the Venetian Era. The monastery is built next to a very beautiful river with huge plane trees and watermills, which concludes at the beach, however water is considered unsafe due to the local landfill.
According to folk tradition, once the three monks Makarios, Kosmas and Ieremias were attacked by pirates and, therefore, they decided to move to another safer place, away from the sea. They decided to move to the chapel of Saint Panteleimon near Fodele, which is how the current monastery of Agios Panteleimon was founded.
