The church of Panagia in Choumeri, province Monofatsi is dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary) and has been restored. During restoration works, part of the 15th-century frescoes was destroeyd. Specifically, the original single-nave church was extended to the west by the addition of an aisle to the south.
The frescoes preserved represent a provincial stream of painting. There are 9 scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, such as the blessing of the priests, the Pray of Joachim, the breastfeeding of little Mary by Saint Anna, etc. There are also scenes from the life of Christ, which emphasize the appearances of Christ after the Resurrection, such as the Incredulity of Saint Thomas.
However, the most distinctive frescoes preserved are three miniature figures to the west of the window and two drafts of Saints to the east of the window. They are a rare testimony of the painter's attempt to practice the art of hagiography.
