This part of the European trail E4 connects Armeni to Arkadi, with its highlights being the Minoan Peak sanctuary of Vrissinas, the valley of Potami dam and Prasses gorge and finally the historical monastery of Arkadi. Due to being quite long, the route an be divided in two parts, from Armeni to Prasses and from Prasses to Arkadi, or to use car for some parts.
We start our course from the picturesque village of Armeni and walk to the Postminoan Cemetery, where it is worth to pay a visit. We continue to the east and ascend on the mount of Vrissinas, the top of which hosted a Minoan sanctuary and today there is the chapel of Agio Pnevma (Holy Spirit). We cross the mountain and descend with southeast direction till the village Sellia. From Sellia we head northeast towards Prasses village, see Simas bridge at Kaminolakos gorge on our right hand and end at Agia Fotini. We can also visit Prasses village and Prassano gorge. This is the first subpart of the route, that can be walked independently.
For the second subpart of the route, from Prasses we head south and come in close proximity to Potami dam. We can visit the dam lake, one of the most beautiful places in Crete. From the dam, we ascend to Gargani mountain and then cross Harkia and Kavoussi, before finishing at Arkadi monastery, where one of the most tragic pages of Greek history took place in 1866.
