The Anonym Cave of Tylissos is located 16 km west of Heraklion, about 1 km before reaching Voulismeno Aloni, at an altitude of 250 meters. It was revealed in 2010 during the works for the new road connecting Tylissos with Anogia.
The works destroyed the largest part of the blind cave which was its main hall, and it seems to have been large with lavish decoration. From the cave remains a small part of about 50 meters (length), average width of 3.5 meters and a ceiling height ranging from 0.8 meters to 6 meters.
The entrance to the cave is possible through a small hole in the ground that barely fits a thin person. The depth of the entrance is approximately 3 meters. In its entirety, the cave has been severely damaged by landslides caused by the construction of the road and therefore requires special attention. We would not suggest a visit by inexperienced cavers.
Although disasters are large, the cave is still impressive due to its decor, the narrow passages and small ponds formed. At the end of the cave there is a single small room that has been left with an array of columns and curtains.
This information does not constitute an invitation to visit the cave, but a simple information about the beauties of Crete. If you are not an experienced caver or if you have not taken all security measures required, do not attempt to enter the cave.
