Keri grove is located at an altitude of 300 meters, around 9km west of Heraklion, near Voulismeno Aloni, on the hill Keri south of the gorge Almyros. It can be accessed via a short dirt road that starts about 300m after Voulismeno Aloni.
The grove consists of approximately 5 square kilometers and is a new forest of pine and some cypress trees in places. Keri has been reforested by the (former) Municipality of Tylissos to serve as a green lung for this dry and rocky area. The reforestation is widespread and successful, despite the problems caused by occasional fires in the forest.
Here you will find a shelter with benches, perfect for a Sunday outing. Moreover, many tracks lead to the secret places of the wood, which you can explore by bicycle. At the easternmost part of the forest, there is almost a vertical cliff. The views to the canyon Almiros, Heraklion city, Amoudara Bay and the springs of Almyros from there is magnificent.
