Dimokratias Avenue, Heraklion
Georgiadis Park is the largest green space in the city of Heraklion. It has been formed next to the Venetian Walls and is bounded by Dimokratias Avenue, Harilaou Trikoupi Street and the Vigla area.
It has been dedicated to the memory of the mayor Minas Georgiadis (1932-1942), during whose mayorship its creation began. The park was inaugurated in 1958 and has undergone many renovations since then.
Today there is a municipal refreshment center, children's playground, green and walking areas and it is a nice option for relaxing in the city. The park often hosts music festivals, and is also the base of the organic farmer's market.
Inside the park there is the statue of Minas Georgiadis, while outside there are monuments dedicated to the Battle of Crete and to the liberator of Crete from the Arabs, Nikiforos Phokas.
