Attention! The heavy rains of the last years have damaged many gorges and many paths have been destroyed so they are no longer accessible. You could inform us for such cases, so we update the listings in our website.
Spiliotissa Gorge, Rogdia
(8 votes)

West of the village Rogdia a small gorge is formed that exits at the area of Paliokastro. The route starts from the old watermill of Koukos, on the main road connecting Rogdia to Achlada, and descends to the most impressive part of it, the 10m high waterfall Rechtra, reached via a quite steep descend with ropes. Descending the gorge, we come by some small waterfalls, the cavernous chapel of Panagia Spiliotissa, and reach the beach of Paliokastro.

What causes a great impression is that in the middle of the gorge, there is a cave that has been transformed into a workshop for painting Christian icons by an agiographer, right in the middle of nowhere. It is great to pay a visit there and talk to the man. see the icons and maybe buy some.

The fall can also be accessed easily by ascending the gorge from Paliokastro.
