Kavalos

Kavalos Fort
(3 votes)

The Fort of Kavalos is located at an elevated position east of the village Larani and south of Megali Vrissi. The point is not particularly well known, mainly because it is not near a central road and can be only accessed through a dirt road. The most passable road starts from Megali Vryssi.

There are no documents mentioning the fort, despite its quite large size. It apparently belonged to the Venetian family Kavali, who wanted to control his feud lands. Later, during the Ottoman rule, it is assumed that it was still used to protect the local Turkish villages (Larani, Koutou) which were inhabited by Muslims.
