In Heraklion Kroussonas we meet the Museum of Greek folk music and musical instruments with the characteristic name "THIRATHEN" ("thirathen pedia" was the classical education in Byzantine Era). 

One of the museum's purposes is to familiarize the local society, mainly with Cretan and Greek traditional music, but also with neighboring countries. An additional goal is to create a center for research and documentation of our musical tradition.
