Below the settlement Vrisses at province Amari we meet the ghost settlement Smilé, which has been abandoned by the mid-20th century. Smilé during the Turkish occupation was inhabited by Ottomans, but nevertheless it retained the Christian church of the Virgin Mary (Panagia), which survives until today in a tragic condition.
The temple is dedicated to the Presentation of Mary (celebrates on November 21) and bears exceptional frescoes from the 14th century. Unfortunately, the building has suffered extensive damage and its interior looks more like a stable. Externally we see an arcosolium, i.e. Venetian tomb usually for the founder of the church.
Near the temple we meet the fountain of the village and a bit further the cemetery church of Lord Christ.
