Hersonissos is a very busy, touristic town located 28km east of Heraklion. 2km east of the Hersonissos port, you'll find several nice coves, that constitute the complex of east Hersonisos beaches stretching to the east till Drapanos Cape. The first beach of east Hersonisos is the sandy Star Beach, which is one of the busiest beaches on the island. Continuing eastbound, you'll meet several small, picteresque sandy and pebbly coves, where you can stay remote. Some of them have really cool water, due to fresh water springs located in the sea. Close to them is the folklore museum of Lychnostatis, where you can learn how old Cretans lived in the previous centuries.
If you head east you'll meet the last beach in Hersonisos area, located in front of Nana beach hotel, in the tip of Drapano Cape. This very well organised with sunbeds, lifeguard. water sports and beach bars. The water is always calm here, because two long piers protect it from the north winds blowing in the area.
