The town of Hyrtakina was built on the steep hill Kastri near the village Temenia, Selino province, and flourished in the Hellenistic Era (4th century BC - 1st century AD). Today the vegetation has covered most parts of the ancient city.
Hyrtakina and Lissos established the Federation of Mounts in the 3rd century BC, a military and monetary union of the season, attended also by Elyros, Pikilassos, and Tarra. These cities confronted domestic and foreign policy commonly for a quite long time.
The archaeological works have revealed traces of the double wall, buildings, part of the road that led to Lissos, a sanctuary of Pan, and a necropolis with carved tombs out of the walls, which were already looted.
