The arid and barren province of Ano Mirabello water is scarce and especially in older times it was the biggest problem of people. Lack of springs forced people to store rain water. Thus, every village stored rainwater in cisterns or large open wells. In some cases, especially in small plateaus (called pogles) the tanks had the size of a small lake. The largest of these lakes today is met in the village Dories and is called Limni (Lake).
Lake in Dories is a big reservoir that collects rainwater of the small plateau. Its shape is rectangular and has water all year round. The water serves irrigation but is not potable. The lake is located in the center of the village Dories and is now one of the attractions of the village along with the eight old monasteries of the region. The existence of water has turned the area into a small habitat for birds and ducks.
