The shelter of Volika is located at an altitude of 1450m near the village Kambi, area Keramia, at northern White Mountains. It can be accessed by 3 hours hiking from Kambi, while the nearest point where a dirt road reaches (starts from the village Madaro) requires 10 minutes hiking. From this refuge someone can walk to the heart of the White Mountains through the trail that heads to the south, cross Spathi peak (2048m) and descends to the area Livada. At Livada it crosses with two trails; the E4 footpath from Katsiveli to Tavri and the trail from Therisso aside the peak Mavri (2070m).
The shelter is the oldest in Crete as it was built in 1958 and later renovated in 2006. It can accommodate 30 people and is available upon request from the Mountaineering Club of Chania (eoshanion.gr). The shelter is heated by stoves and a fireplace, there is no electricity, water from tap and there are toilets inside.
