At the village Evangelismos, also known as Muhtari, we meet the Church of the Annunciation of Virgin Mary, after which the village takes its current name (Evangelismos means Annunciation). An inscription from ancient Lyktos is embedded in the outer wall of the temple, while the interior bears a few but excellent frescoes of the 14th century.
The paintings follow the style of other temples found in temples that belonged to the feuds of the noble Venetian family of Kallergis (part of the village was their feud). It also preserves scenes from Adam and Eve (Adam, Eve, Temptation and Eviction from Eden), which are also met only in four more churches in Crete.
