The Tentas area is located on the easternmost coast of Crete, within the territory of Palekastro in the Sitia province, between Cape Sidero and ancient Itanos. The very narrow strip of land, Lemos, which leads to the naval base in Kyriamadi, forming two very narrow bays on either side, is particularly impressive. The rocky seabed is one of the best fishing spots on the island.
Strong winds blow in the area during the summer meltemi (northwest winds) season, which is why it is very common to see windsurfers. The western bay is called Tentas and during the meltemi it usually has waves and collects garbage. On the contrary, the eastern bay, Eligas, usually has a completely flat surface.
In Eligas, two beaches are formed, ideal for swimming away from prying eyes. The northernmost beach of Tentopoula is rocky and more secluded than the second beach a little further south, which is also the central beach in the area, called Eligas (you will often hear this Eligas beach referred to as Tenta). The beach has clear blue calm waters, a sandy bottom, and an endless view of the deep bay of Eligas.
