The branch of the European path E4 that descends from Kryoneritis heads northwards to meet the north E4 branch coming from Argiroupolis. This part of the route offers a nice stroll in lush green ravines and the ghost village of Nissi near Kato Poros.
Initially, we start from Alones and head northeast till we meet the lush green ravine of the area. From there, we hike along the riverside and below the shadow of perennial plane trees. Water is met till late spring. After 2km we follow the dirt road and reach Velonado village.
From there, we head north via the asphalt road and soon see the exit of the gorge of Moundros to the northeast. On the way we meet some E4 signs, which we have to ignore as they are for the crossing E4 path running in Moundros gorge. Instead, we point on climbing on the rocky hill formed west of the gorge.
When the main road turns and heads to the west, we keep walking northwards via the trail ascending to the hill. We keep heading north and ascend on the hill. We meet a dirt road and walk along it. On the next junction we could turn right and visit the very old church of Panagia, overlooking Moundros gorge. We turn back and soon reach the abandoned settlement of Nissi, a typical sample of the genuine Cretan architecture. We make a stop there and see the dilapidated houses and the church of Saint George.
The last part of the route heads northeast, crosses a small ravine and reaches the main road to villages Agios Georgios and Agios Konstantinos, the last being the finish of the route.
