The beach of Pachia Ammos in the position Afrathias (or Afratias) is formed between the airport of Tymbaki and the seaside settlement Kalamaki. Although it is actually the longest beach in Mesara, it is also the less busy.
Iraklion (Heraklion or Herakleion) is the largest urban centre in Crete, the capital of the region and the economic centre of the island. Hania (or Chania) is the second biggest town in Crete and is well known for its scenic old town and harbor. Rethymnon is built between the two other large cities of Crete. The town still maintains its old aristocratic appearance, with its buildings dating from the 16th century, arched doorways, fountains etc. Agios Nikólaos is the capital of the Lassithi province of Crete and is built around a picturesque lake on the north-western side of the Mirabello bay.
The Lighthouse of Sitia, also known as Exo Fanari, is located on the cape Vamvakia north of Sitia airport. It belongs to the network of lighthouses built by the French Lighthouse Company at the end of the 19th century throughout Crete and was put into operation in 1892.
Near the northern entrance of Epano Archanes we find the Old Primary School of Archanes. The Didaskalio, as it is known, is a classic sample of neoclassical urban architecture of the early 20th century that was used in many schools in Greece.
Psilos Volakas is the most popular of the nearby beaches that you will find in the west, after the small Kalamia beach, about 1.5km west of Paleochora.

A few meters from the central square of the village Stavrochori (formerly Stravodoxari) in the province Ierapetra is the oldest neighborhood of the village, Mesochoria. In the square of Mesochoria, where narrow picturesque alleys lead, is the two-aisled church of Saint George and Panagia.
Karavostasis is the last beach you meet, at the northernmost tip of Bali Bay. It is regarded as the most beautiful beach in the area. It is much smaller than the other bays, which makes it almost always seem crowded. It's well organized but less than the rest ones.
In the area Ormos of the town of Agios Nikolaos and in a steep area facing the islets of Agioi Pantes and Psira, we meet the historical villa of director Nikos Koundouros (1926 - 2017).
