The coves of Paleochora are among the most beautiful places where one can swim in southern Crete. They are very easily accessible, as the main road that connects Paleochora with the beach of Krios passes next to all the beaches. A very comfortable sidewalk has even been built, ideal for jogging or an evening walk (it's very hot on summer days!).
About 1.5 km after the beautiful town is the well-organized beach Psilos Volakas, where sometimes it is quite crowded for the area. A good choice, if you want to completely isolate yourself, is the next beach to the west, the small beach of Trochalou, which resembles Psilos Volakas, in a much more rocky version with large pebbles. The name comes from trochalos, meaning the pile of stones, and refers to the large rocks on the beach. Due to the large pebbles, it is not as comfortable for swimming as the other beaches, but it certainly offers more isolation.
Immediately after, the Karavopetra coves start. In Trochalou we meet large rocks that offer shade, while also taking various strange forms. From time to time various visitors create various elaborate structures with rocks and ropes.
