Kissano Gorge is located 1km north of the village Kissos in Agios Vasilios province and 34km southeast of Rethymnon, connecting the settlement Kambos Kissou with the small plateau of Gious Kambos. The river flowing in the gorge is the main tributary of the Gorge Frati. The canyon has no rich vegetation and forms small waterfalls, highest being 5-7m, being ideal for canyoning, although one can carefully overpass the waterfalls from the sides without canyoning equipment.
The route starts from the small plateau Gious Kambos, a small botanical paradise due to its extremely diverse flora. After a 20 to 30 minute walk in or aside the riverbed, you reach the point where the river crosses the road that connects Kissos with Gerakari. At this point rises an imposing reddish rock with many caverns called Kokkinos Detis and that is why the locals call it also as Kokkinos Detis Gorge.
At this point, the main part of the canyon actually ends, but the river continues its descent, forming small waterfalls. It then crosses by the artificial pine wood Vatolakki, about 60 hectares, before continuing its course to Spili and then to Frati.
