Just next to the village Vamos in Apokoronas province, you can visit the relatively modern church of Agia Paraskevi (Saint Paraskevi), surrounded by many plane trees. Next to the church with the beautiful mosaic floor, a trail ascends to the summit of Koules tower of Vamos, remains of which still exist. In the middle of the distance, we meet the small chapel of Panagia (Virgin Mary) built in the late 20th century.
The huge platan trees around it hide its presence. Behind the chapel, there is a small dark cave, where the tradition wants a shepherd to have found the icon of Panagia and then decided to build the church. The blackened ceil of the cave inspired the name of the church, which locals call Mavri Panagia (i.e. Black Virgin Mary). There is no road leading there, just the trail to Koules. The temple celebrates annualy on September 24.
