The path from Achentrias to Agios Nikitas and then to Tsoutsouras is one of the most authentic routes on the island, offering unique views of the wild coast of South Crete, the sharp and steep rocks of Asterousia Range with low vegetation.
The course starts from Achentrias village (altitude 690m) and at the beginning we walk in a dirt road and then the trail that passes from Stiromandra position. From there we follow part of the ancient paved path leading from Achentrias to Agios Nikitas and we reach the Stenos Poros (alt. 820m) with the colorful spectacular cliffs. From Stenos Poros we descend to the seasonal lake Tourkou Lakos, the southernmost in Crete. After the lake, the path continues with a stone path to the spring Kefalovryssi and the unique palm grove of Agios Antonios (St Anthony).
From there we visit the secluded monastery of Agios Nikitas and enjoy a swim in the unique beach below it. We then start our journey to the settlement Maridaki, where we can enjoy the food and our coffee below the huge plane trees of the spring. If it is winter, we can ascend 20' to the beautiful waterfall of Lihnistis. From Maridaki we walk along the coastal path to the summer resort of Tsoutsouras, observing the wonderful caves on our way.
