The part of the European path E4 that connects Chora Sfakion with Frangokastelo and then with Rodakino is all on paved road and we suggest that you explore it by car. In case you want to hike, you should definetely be prepared for heat and no shadow. This part of the trail runs along the south slopes of the White Mountains and offers unique views to many imposing gorges of the area.
Initially, we start from Chora Sfakion and follow the main road to the east. We first cross the exit of Sfakiano gorge and then we reach a junction to Chania and Fragokastelo, we take the right turn to Fragokastelo and soon come in Komitades village at the exit of the popular gorge of Imbros. We keep walking on the road to the east and cross the small settlements of Vraskas, Vouvas, Nomikiana and Agios Nektarios before reaching Fragokastelo.
Fragokastelo is famous for the imposing fort and the ghosts of Drosoulites appearing there, while there is an amazing beach. After making a dive in the emerald sea, we keep walking to the east, towards Rodakino village. We first cross the villages Skaloti and Argoules, which are the last villages we meet in Chania prefecture. We enter the prefecture of Rethymnon and keep walking to Rodakino village built at the south slopes of Krioneritis Mount.
