On the road connecting the settelments Galifa and Episkopi we meet a small single-room vaulted church dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ. The temple dates back from the 14th century and its interior bears frescoes in poor condition.
Bitzariano is a small abandoned scenic settlement close to Kastelli, Pediada district, and a suburb of Karouzana village. It name is taken after the surname Bitzarakis. Near the village runs the river that gathers water from the north Kasteli plain. The value of water was very high, as the locals built many watermills in order to shred the grain of the area.
Ο ναός της Αγίας Πελαγίας βρίσκεται σε σημείο με πανοραμική θέα στην Άνω Βιάννο και η πρόσβαση γίνεται με περπάτημα στα όμορφα σοκάκια του χωριού. Ο ναός χρονολογείται στον 14ο αιώνα και φέρει εξαιρετικές τοιχογραφίες του 1360 (χρονολογία που αναγράφεται στην είσοδο).
Ο ναός του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Προδρόμου Πεζέτη (εορτ. 29 Αυγούστου) αποτελούσε καθολικό μικρής μονής στην τοποθεσία Ξεβίγλι, όπως μαρτυρούν ίχνη από τα κτίρια των μοναχών. Ήταν μετόχι της μονής Αγίου Ιωάννη Θεολόγου στην Ανώπολη. Ο ναός φέρει τοιχογραφίες δύο φάσεων, του 12ου και του 14ου αιώνα, από τις σπουδαιότερες στην Κρήτη.
In the cemetery of Stamni village, we meet the double aisled church dedicated to Saint Vlassios. The north aisle bears traces of frescoes and was built in the Venetian Era, while the south aisle and west facade was built in the 19th century.
Ο ναός του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Θεολόγου που δεσπόζει σήμερα στην αγροτική αυτή περιοχή περιτριγυρίζεται από ένα μεγάλο αριθμό ερειπωμένων κτισμάτων στα δυτικά του που πολύ πιθανόν να ήτανε απομεινάρια από κάποιο μεσαιωνικό οικισμό ή από κελιά αφού πολύ πιθανόν ο Άη Γιάννης να ήτανε μοναστήρι. Το κακό στην περίπτωσή του είναι ότι δεν υπάρχει καμιά γραπτή πηγή αλλά ούτε και προφορική παράδοση γεγονός που μας κάνει να συμπεράνουμε ότι πιθανόν να ερημώθηκε βίαια.
Kallikovrechtis beach is located 19km west of Ierapetra and 4km east of the picturesque town of Myrtos and can be reached via asphalt road from Myrtos or Tertsa. The beach belongs to the periphery of the village of Ghodia and is formed at the exit of the Kalikovretis stream, formed between the summits of Kolechtos and Kako Oros.
In the area of Akrotiri Cape, near Chania, the Turks had built two towers towards protecting and controlling the wider area. The first was built in Kounoupidiana area (near the Tombs of Venizelos), while the second was built in Sternes position (overlooking Souda Bay). Apart from them, there were several other fortified chateaus, like the tower of Mouzouras.
