The Canyon Xerokambos, Canyon Ziros, Canyon Hamaitoulo or Canyon Lamnoni, is one of the most arid gorges in Eastern Crete, which in the past was the passage from Ziros to Xerokambos. Hiking in the gorge takes about 2 hours and its descent is quite easy and smooth. The gorge has a characteristic wild beauty, with bare high walls and low vegetation. Throughout the route, you will see the vast blue of the South Cretan Sea on the horizon. In summer, the temperatures in the area are very high and there is no shade. Also, it would be good for a member of the company to "sacrifice" himself and drive you to the upper entrance of the gorge, to the small plateau of Lamnoni, or to the second entrance next to the village of Hamaitoulo, and then to meet in Xerokampos, where she/he can enjoy the exotic sea and the emerald beaches of the area while waiting for you.
Taking the road from Xerokampos to the plateau of Ziros, you will see the exit of the gorge in front of you. From Ziros follow the road to the deserted settlementLamnoni, located about 4 km to the east. From here you can walk along the ravine that soon turns into a gorge. You will initially meet a small fountain with water and you may need to open some doors for keeping goats in the pasture lands. From there, you enter the gorge and walk to its exit, near the Ziros - Xerokambos road. From there the gorge continues to the beach of Lygia.
