The museum of Acritans of Europe is housed in the center of Paleochora town, in the old boarding house. It was established on July 2006. The museum is the result of a long preparation and product conferences and scientific debates within the European program "Culture 2000», «European Acritic Heritage» depicting a universal cultural and historical phenomenon focusing on the ambiguity of the term Acritans (aka Frontiersmen), who are the defenders of the borders, the legendary guards of Europe that have common characteristics .
It is a museum unique in the world. With its exhibits and educational material it proves the common cultural heritage of the peoples of Europe. The ethnographic and historical material was used as a link between different nationalities or religions. This permanent exhibition indicates that apart from the cross-border contrasts and conflicts, the confrontation of armies and the various political, economic and national conflicts, there are and bridges of communication. Such bridges are set up by songs, dances, festivals, art, love and intermarriage, trade, financial transactions and various intercultural exchanges. Its content includes oral, audio, video, text, images from different times and places.
