Xotikospilio (i.e. the cave of elfs) is located 70km southwest of Chania, 30km south of Kissamos and around 1.5 km northwest of village Keramoti. It is named after the small cave next to it where elfs live according to local legends. You can visit that and see the small chapel that is built in the cave. On Good Friday of 1824, the Turks slaughtered the women and the children that were hiding in the cave of Xotikospilios, right after the massacre in Elafonissi.
This wild secluded beach is shaped in a small wild cove, surrounded by the rough and wild Cretan landscape. The beach has big round pebbles and there are absolutelly no facilities nearby. This is ideal for snorkelling and remote moments, but waves are the major problem for swimming in the west coastline of Crete. You can drive to Xotikospilio through a dirt track, but it's better not to take your car down to the beach, but leave it on the plateau before the beach.
